Pool volume calculator: gallons and liters

By Emre, Pulad Labs · Updated 2026-10-18

You need your pool's volume before any chemical dose makes sense. Enter the size, get gallons and liters. For a sloping bottom, enter the shallow and the deep end.

Volume, US gallons–
Volume, liters–
Volume, cubic meters–

Average depth = (shallow + deep) / 2. This is an estimate: steps, benches and curves change the real volume by a few percent. For a dose, a number within about 5 percent is fine. Everything runs in your browser.

The formulas

ShapeVolume (US gallons, feet)
Rectanglelength x width x average depth x 7.48
Rounddiameter x diameter x average depth x 5.9
Ovallength x width x average depth x 5.9

One cubic foot of water is about 7.48 US gallons, one US gallon is 3.785 liters, and one cubic meter is 1,000 liters. If you know the volume from the pool's papers, use that instead.

Check it with a meter or a bucket

If the shape is odd, run a hose into a bucket of known size and count the fills, or read the pool's water meter before and after filling. The calculator is for sizing a dose, not a plan to build a pool.

Want a step-by-step plan from your own test?

Clearly turns your pool or hot tub water test into an ordered plan: what to add, how much and in what order, for any brand of chemicals. It works offline and needs no account.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate pool volume in gallons?

For a rectangular pool in feet: length x width x average depth x 7.48. For round and oval pools use 5.9 instead of 7.48 (with diameter or length x width). Average depth is the shallow end plus the deep end, divided by two.

How many liters is a pool of 10,000 gallons?

About 37,850 liters. One US gallon is 3.785 liters.

Why does my pool volume matter?

Every chemical dose is based on volume. A 20 percent error in volume means a 20 percent error in the dose.
