Jewelry store software for small shops: what you need and what it costs

By Emre, Pulad Labs · Updated 2026-10-16

If you run one to three counters, the jewelry software market is confusing: some tools cost more per month than your rent for a case, others are generic retail apps that do not know what a karat is. This guide is a plain checklist so you can decide.

What a small jewelry store needs

  1. Per-piece inventory with photo, metal and karat, weight in grams, stones, and a GIA / IGI certificate number. A generic "item name and price" list is not enough for jewelry.
  2. Point of sale and receipts: cash, card, layaway and installments, discounts, a printable or PDF receipt, VAT / sales tax / GST lines.
  3. Layaway and store credit: who owes what, with reminders you can send in one tap.
  4. Repair tracking: received, promised and ready dates, a repair slip, and a "your repair is ready" message. Lost repair envelopes cost real money.
  5. Gold price awareness: today's price per gram or ounce visible while you quote.
  6. Simple reports: daily and monthly revenue and collections, export to CSV / Excel for your accountant.

Questions to ask any vendor

Who should not use a small app

If you have many staff, several locations, bench jobs with custom design and casting, or need deep accounting integration, a full jewelry ERP is the right tool. A small app is for the owner-operator who wants to stop losing repair envelopes and chasing balances.

Frequently asked questions

How much does jewelry store software cost?

Third-party listings put dedicated jewelry POS between roughly $150 and $600 per month for US vendors (Jewel360 lists from $199/month, BusinessMind from $149/month, Luxe is often quoted near $600/month, Lightspeed Retail roughly $69-$289/month per store). Vendors change prices, so ask for a current quote.

Can I run a jewelry store on Excel?

Yes for inventory and repair tracking in a very small shop. It gets painful once you need sales receipts, customer balances, layaway and daily reports in one place.

What features does a jewelry store really need?

Per-piece inventory with karat, weight, stones and certificate numbers; a point of sale with receipts; layaway and customer balances; repair tracking; and gold price awareness. Everything else is optional for a small shop.
